Sandbanks - Management

Background information

An area that has suffered as a consequence of changing deposition is Sandbanks - a spit facing Studland - between them is the entrance to Poole Harbour.  Sandbanks is a high class residential area

The longshore drift on this stretch of coast runs from east to west i.e. from Bournemouth to Sandbanks.  When groynes were placed on Bournemouth beach to protect it it meant Sandbanks suffered from sediment starvation.

Various management strategies were put in place to reduce the impact of erosion these include a low sea wall and rock armour.
